POETIC HOPE - Tree Collages
“Poetic Hope” (2021-2025) Trees and Owl started showing up in my murals in 2020 as a need to share joy and beauty during difficult times. Today this is still much needed. Poetic Hope is a series of tree collages that bring together bits and pieces of local newspapers and books to create a new reality – one full of love, healing and hope.
The trees are a conversation between form and meaning. The beauty of the color and cheerful movement of the trees and the words on the pages. - - - as you get closer to the trees, words/ phrases start resonating with you.
In 2022 the Drawing Room in San Francisco held an artist talk series in their gallery for their exhibition Adaptations. This is the video of my presentation for the piece, THESE COME FROM TREES - - - POETIC HOPE.
This site specific installation (acrylic paint, wheat paste, repurposed books on concrete wall) is an adaptation from the piece “Poetic Hope in Pink”, (newspaper on bright pink background) accompanied by the following poem:
PAPER THOUGHTS
by Ella Noe
From these trees we came
and into trees once again we are transformed
and although it says hope and shines light on the soul,
these trees, though poetic,
are not what once fed
us,
and helped us grow.
